zero-carbon community energy

Greener Schools Project 2026

En10ergy worked with Haringey Borough Council to help deliver a grant that the council has received under the Greener Schools Programme.

The Mayor of London wants to help schools in London reach net zero as part of his ambition for a zero carbon London by 2030.

Building on other funding, the Greener Schools pilot scheme trialed different approaches to decarbonising London schools through work with boroughs, schools, young Londoners and local communities.

The pilot explored how schools can:

  • save on their energy bills to spend more money on their core education mission
  • become a big source of energy generation in London. Taken together, the rooftops of London’s schools could produce as much energy as a new power station
  • become more energy efficient and resilient to climate change to help prevent lost days of schooling.

Haringey received funding for solar panels on three schools in the borough – the Brook Special Primary school, The Willow Primary School and Risley Avenue Primary School. There will also be replacement of lighting with LEDs at Risley Avenue Primary School.

A 150 kWp rooftop solar PV system was installed at The Brook School & Willow School in early 2026, and a solar car port is planned at Risley Avenue School.

En10ergy provided technical expertise for the installation of the solar panels, and also undertook detailed feasibility surveys for LED lighting replacements for the schools. We also co-ordinated engagement with the school students – bringing in RAFT and Quantum to provide energy-focused lessons. We introduced Brook and Willow School to Ashden’s Lets Go Zero programme, and the school has now completed it’s climate action plan.

We have modelled how a community energy strategy could help Haringey to leverage their carbon offset funds, to achieve more school solar and LED installations, alongside creating a community benefit fund. We presented this to the Council in Spring 2026.

En10ergy is always looking for opportunities to work with local community groups to promote collaboration to increase solar power and energy saving in the Borough. Do get in touch if you would like to know more.
